I’ve never been a morning person, in fact I’ve never liked morning people.
When I would get into the office I would arrive with a large coffee and a look on my face that people knew said the below:
1. “don’t speak to me this early in the morning”
2. “don’t speak to me until I’ve finished this large coffee”
3. “don’t speak to me for another 3 hours, until after I have woken up”
4. “If possible, don’t speak to me at all”
Yet still, people would come over with a smile and say “good morning, I’ve been here for an hour, there’s some emails and info I sent you, can you look at that and respond when you’ve turned on your computer”.
It’s the smily good mornings of these “morning people” that while seemingly friendly, becomes a source of the highest annoyance.
Do I go to your house at 3am in the morning, smiling and cheerful, wake you up while you’re trying to sleep and say to you “good night, just wanted to let you know I’m still awake and sent you some emails, I know you’re tired but can you wake up and respond now?”
No, because I’m considerate and nice (except in the morning) unlike these morning people who have no consideration of others and their sleep patterns.
It seems the entire world has been designed by morning people, waking up when the sun rises and disappearing when the sun goes down. While myself and the rest of us must operate like vampires in this world, trying to avoid the sun as our drains our energy and appearing at night, cheerful and ready to take on anything while the rest of the world sleeps.
However after finding my days incredible unproductive and it is harder to get everything done if I wake up late, I have decided that if I can’t beat them (violently with my large coffee mug in the morning) then I should try to join them (for a late brunch at least).
So I will be beginning my attempt to become a morning person which is also part of my attempt to be more productive and spend my time and days better. I’ll find resources and methods to help me be a morning person and share these as well.
Today I woke up just after lunch around 1pm, so I wouldn’t call today a huge success but it does set the bar very low to improve upon tomorrow which is good.
